06.27.2023 - into dungenes cove
woke up to see the sunrise. a sliver between the coastline and the heavy hanging cloud bank.
it was a surprise, because we watched the sun set the night before, one usually can't see the sunrise and sunset from the same location. but there it was. that's what happens when you're far enough north and near the solstice, i guess.
we slept the night in the car, true car camping. the back of the rogue with the back seats down fit suzi well enough, a little bit short for me. after i woke and saw the sunrise, i went into the front seat to catch a little more sleep. when we woke, it was warm enough, the wind had died down over the night.
breakfast at the blackberry cafe. disappointing for the lack of fresh blackberries, they were frozen from last year. but there are flowering blackberry canes everywhere, another couple of weeks and they will be drowning in fresh, ripe ones.
rode the discovery trail into port angeles, toured the downtown, checked out the port and found another cafe, the east street coffe and tea house. this time i had a london fog chai. traditionally made with earl grey and a little honey. not bad, actually.

then back on the trail along the coast line, very existential in soft grays.
onward with some serious quick down to the stream and back up again plays.
on the way to dungeness i come across the first real farmland, cherry trees, some apples and even a lavender farm. i keep thinking i'm in upper michigan, except for the mountains behind me.
since i rode longer yesterday than i planned to, today was a shorter ride. only 35 miles. i rolled into dungeness cove campground early. suzi, in the meantime, had gone off to try her luck in accessing hurricane ridge. dungeness cove campground turns out to be an excellent find. with cliffs and a 5 mile spit of land. and time to walk around and explore a little.
